Metallica Wins Grammy for Best Metal Performance

Renown Metal band, Metallica's return to the music scene with their new album "Death Magnetic" that was released in September 12, 2008 was awarded with a special treat from the U.S. music industry. The U.S. rockers was handed the Grammy for "Best Metal Performance" through their song "My Apocalypse".

It wasn't to be an easy ride for Metallica to win the award as they have to compete with the likes of Dragonforce, Judas Priest, Ministry and Slipknot. Beside winning the Best Metal award, the band's new record also managed to grab another Grammy for "Best Recording Package".

"Death Magnetic" itself was Metallica's ninth studio album until this year, and it was released after they had 5 years of break following the release of "St Anger" in 2003. The new record was an instant hit after it was first dropped to the market as it managed to reach the top spot on the Billboard 200, selling about 490,000 copies in just three days.
In other news, after receiving the Grammy it looks like Metallica won't have a lot of time to celebrate as they have to get ready for another tour. Blabermouth.net revealed that the band has been tapped to headline a series of European music fest starting from June to July, called the "Sonisphere" .
